Living in a sci-fi world, part 1: face transplants

Slowly starting to come out of the project that occupied me for the last year, I am going to start posting entries to our blog again. The theme will be 'living in a sci-fi world'.

There are an astonishing number of discoveries and things we already take for granted in our daily lifes that were unthinkable only a ten years ago. Only sci-fi authors went beyond the boundaries of everyones imaginations. However we now live in the world they created.

The posts will first and foremost be simply links away from our sites. Some issues I might take up and argue with myself about. We'll see how it evolves (or not if I jump right into the next big project).

Face transplants. Ever thought that he/ she looked better than you? Well, how about twisting them around in some way so that they will donate their face to you after they die... and them kill them? Think their lives are better than yours? Well, take theirs.

Allright, I am going wild and have a vivid imagination. But think about it and you'll find many other scenarios that just seem odd and will feel very 'sci-fi-like'.

Google expanding on e-commerce: after froogle, a wallet !

WSJ.com - Google Plans Online-Payment Service

"Google Inc. this year plans to offer an electronic-payment service that could help the Internet-search company diversify its revenue and may put it in competition with eBay Inc.'s PayPal unit, according to people familiar with the matter."

And there is already one hot market eager to take advantage of this future e-payment platform

How Paypal / e-bay is reacting to that early announcement?
"Officials of Google and PayPal declined to comment."

Project Placesite

PlaceSite - Reinventing Wi-Fi Community

An interesting initiative bridging Wifi cafe and social networking. Would need excellence in usability, strategic initial positioning in crowded high tech cafe where early adopters get their shot and croissant. Also would be nice to try it out of USA... Like in Europe and Asia to see if other internet culture would adopt it and how they would... Please localize it early on... Find out global behavior day one...
